‘Chi Barbie’ is making waves! Last Thursday, the Chicago Sky ended a four-game loss after their matchup with the Dallas Wings. As the team desperately needed a win, the Baltimore native added 16 points, helping the Sky cruise to 83 points. Meanwhile, she also recorded her seventh consecutive double-doubles, becoming the first WNBA rookie in history to achieve such a feat and congratulations were in order for her from a certain legend.
Impressed by her on-court performance, tennis legend Billie Jean King took to his official X account and penned, “Congratulations, Angel Reese!,” while reposting a story from Bleacher Report. Notably, Angel Reese is already halfway to breaking the all-time WNBA record of double-doubles, currently held by Candace Parker with 12.

“It’s super exciting for myself…I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league,” Reese told ESPN. With Reese already at 7 double-doubles in her rookie year, Parker’s record seems like a realistic target for her to achieve. Reese currently averages 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, with her rebounding average only surpassed by two-time MVP A’ja Wilson.
Moreover, this victory over Dallas represents Reese’s way of overcoming the negativity spread by media outlets. In the last matchup against the Indiana Fever, Clark was flagrantly fouled by Reese. Following this incident, media outlets reported that Reese implied Caitlin Clark had a “special whistle”. As expected, this led to criticism against Sky’s rookie, and now she responds with “I’m good” to avoid her words being twisted by the media. However, Reese has now turned animosity into congratulations by navigating through rough waters.
Reese’s way of celebrating triumph
Thursday’s win for the Sky was even more challenging because the Wings had Arike Ogunbowale, who averages 25.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. Nonetheless, the Sky made a close run in the fourth quarter, closing a 9-point gap. Thanks to Reese’s career-high 18 rebounds. Additionally, Marina Mabrey and Chennedy Carter each scored a team-high 19 points.
On the other hand, Arike Ogunbowale of the Dallas Wings posted a game-high 31 points. With Sky’s victory and Reese’s historical record, Reese and the team celebrated by dancing to Sexyy Red & Drake’s “U My Everything“. Within an hour of posting, Reese’s video garnered over 150,000 views.
