Cameron Brink was supposed to come to Paris and play some hoops, maybe shop a little bit. Instead, what had started as a dreamy escape turned into a whirlwind of luxury, confusion, and a lesson in customs chaos. Picture this: Hermès bags, a starstruck shopping experience, and a return trip to the U.S. that wasn’t exactly how she had envisioned it. Brink’s experience, shared candidly on her podcast Straight to Cam, offers a glimpse into the unpredictable moments that come with life in the spotlight—and the occasional headaches that follow.

It’s the story of Brink’s love for an expensive Birkin bag that brought her into a mess. The penalty? The system hit her with a shocking $2000 in tax! In episode 2 of her pod with Sydel Curry-Lee, Brink recounted the incident with a sense of disbelief.

“We were walking back through American Customs—it was a mixup—the agent; we didn’t hear him and he also didn’t really ask us. He was like, ‘Do you have anything to declare?’ And my mom and I were like, ‘What?’ He was like, ‘Do you have any food, any like, alcohol?’ We were like, ‘No, we don’t have any food or alcohol.’ We walk out.” Big mistake!

“The people pull us aside. They’re like, ‘We could take away your Global Entry. You didn’t declare.'” It turns out that they were supposed to declare their luxury purchases. “We were like, ‘We didn’t know.’ … And so we had to pay like two grand in tax,” the $209-a-day earning Cam shared. But it didn’t end there.

“We had to open up every single one of our suitcases, show them everything,” she recalled. But either way, she was going to be $2000 short. “Apparently, we would have had to pay anyways because we spent a lot of money,” Brink admitted with a laugh.

Was it worth it?

Well, anyone familiar with the elite world of Hermès Birkin bags knows that it definitely was! And Cameron Brink took complete advantage of her trip, scoring not one but two Birkin bags. Hilariously enough, CB promised that she “wouldn’t be buying anything” of this magnitude anytime soon.

Have an interesting take?

Considering her 2024 salary of $76,535 breaks down to about $209 per day, the penalty nearly wiped out 10 days’ worth of earnings. “I spent way too much money,” she admitted. “My dad’s gonna kill me,” she added as an afterthought.

It’s a story that’s equal parts glamorous and chaotic—proof that even a dream shopping spree can come with a pricey reality check.

Cameron Brink’s latest obsession

Cameron Brink has a new guilty pleasure, and it’s as chaotic as it sounds. Her latest obsession? Pop the Balloon or Find Love—a wild dating show she discovered on TikTok. “It’s so good,” Brink gushed on Straight to Cam. Instead of watching full episodes, she hunts down clips in the comments, piecing together the drama.

The concept? Singles hold balloons while a contestant lists deal-breakers—if they’re not interested, they pop theirs. “It’s like the modern Next,” Brink said, referencing the ruthless early 2000s dating show. The brutal rejections are what keep her hooked. “One girl, super cute, had a deeper voice. They just went next. I felt so bad.”

Would Brink ever try it? Probably not. She joked, “I’d think about it if I wasn’t 6’5”. But I’d feel so awkward. Everyone would just say the height is too much.”

For now, she enjoys watching the chaos unfold and suggested just not rage-delete TikTok like she did. “Now I can’t get it back. Don’t make my mistake.”
