When the Connecticut Sun played against the Seattle Storm on Sunday, Alyssa Thomas couldn’t have imagined what lay ahead. Fresh off a knee injury against the Washington Mystics on Saturday, tragedy struck Thomas as she once again nursed a knee injury – this time by banging her knee on the hardwood.
Thomas was going for a loose ball when the Sun led at 32 as opposed to the Storm’s 26 in the second quarter. But, Thomas wasn’t the only one diving in to get the ball. In fact, the Storm’s Joyner Holmes also tried her best to get the ball, but it slipped out of their hands and both eventually fell on the floor. While Joyner was able to get up easily, Thomas had to be rotated by DeWanna Bonner. However, this was not the first time that Thomas was facing such a predicament.

During the game between the Sun and the Mystics on Saturday, Thomas had collided with the Mystics star Karlie Samuelson when her team was leading with a 22-19 tally at the beginning of the second quarter. While the Sun was looking to attack and trying its destiny from beyond the arc, Samuelson tried to change her position on the hardwood taking Thomas to the ground as she too fell with her. Even then Thomas had hurt her right leg, the same one that she injured today.
She was analyzed by the coaches and the training staff as she lay in extreme pain on the court. After a few minutes of lying on the floor, she had to be taken by her team’s staff to the locker room. Samuelson was given a foul for the incident but Thomas didn’t return to play in the remaining game. “She’s sore. We’re going to get her reevaluated to see how she feels for,” Connecticut coach Stephanie White had stated.

Therefore, in this game, after scoring zilch points against the Mystics, Thomas was expected to make a comeback. But, an unexpected injury cut short her time.
