A’ja Wilson is turning heads in Paris with Team USA, as they set their sights on clinching an incredible eighth Olympic gold medal. But, it’s not just her stellar play that’s creating a buzz. There’s also a lot of excitement about her upcoming signature sneakers with Nike, hitting the shelves next year. After few details got public about Wilson’s signature deal, now intriguing new stuff has leaked which suggests it may resemble late NBA legend Kobe Bryant‘s design.
It looks like some beans got spilled on the Locked On Women’s Basketball podcast when a senior journalist was asked about A’ja Wilson’s sneakers. The journalist from Footwear News, Peter Verry, said he was surprised when Wilson expounded on her signature shoe. “And A’ja is 6’7, so she needs something that’s sturdy, right? But then she was talking about everything about the shoe. I’m like, wait a second, this sounds more along the lines of a Kobe silhouette than like a LeBron,” Peter Verry said on Locked On Women’s Basketball.
Much like Wilson’s performance that goes unnoticed on the court, we all have also taken cognizance of the shoes she dons to dominate on the hardwood. And they are mostly the NBA legend LeBron James‘ designs. But it looks like it might change soon. Verry elaborated, “She (Wilson) said ‘it’s a low top which she typically doesn’t wear on the court. It’s very versatile.” The journalist went on to highlight that a key feature of the shoe will be its comfort. It’s built to handle 40 minutes of intense play, just what Wilson wants.
