A’ja Wilson is proving to be a beast for the Las Vegas Aces as she continues to stack up victories on her shoulders for the 2x WNBA champions. Another WNBA athlete who has been breaking the ceilings of the league for some time is Chennedy Carter. Still, despite another 25+ point game and a clutch three-pointer to remember, all she could acknowledge was the beauty of watching the Aces icon in action.
Tonight, A’ja Wilson pressed all the cylinders at once after the third quarter as she pushed the Aces alongside Kelsey Plum for the win. In the fourth quarter, things tipped towards the visiting Vegas team as they outlasted the Sky by 9 points with a 23-14 run. However, with only 1:38 on the game clock, Lindsay Allen’s deep three got the hosts running again. From there, they had a 6-nil run, including Chennedy Carter’s shot from beyond the arc with just one second left, to tie the Aces for 75-75. Hence, almost forcing overtime.
‘Almost’ because 1.1 seconds was enough for A’ja Wilson to show her expertise at making clutch shots. With her buzzer-beater, the Aces won the game 77-75. While the 2x MVP was not happy with her shots, Carter was in awe. The Chicago guard told Emily Proud after the game, “But it’s A’ja Wilson. She’s the MVP for a reason.“

Further adding to the praise, she said, “We know she’s gonna turn up in the 4th quarter. We got to be ready for that. Got to be ready offensively but defensively as well.”

We can only assume the heartbeats of the spectators in the Wintrust Arena as Las Vegas pulled for the epic game plan with just one second on their clock. While the Aces may have taken the win home, Chicago’s ultimate playing style too was on full display tonight.
Despite A’ja Wilson and Co’s win, Chicago does take the cake for their grind

Tonight, Chicago and Las Vegas met for the third time in the season. Previously, the Aces took the win while the Sky swept the Michelob ULTRA Arena in their last matchup. Hence, whether you call it the pressure of winning or just a bad day, the visitors were not exactly looking like themselves in the first half. But you can also blame Sky’s defense for Vegas’ subpar initial performance.
Going into the game, Chicago pressed at the Aces players with their aggressive playing style. From post players, which include the rookie Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, to the backcourt, everyone was walking on eggshells against the visitors. Until the first 3+ minutes, Vegas could not make any of their shots fall and Cardoso was simply breathtaking in the paint. She had 2 blocks within this time period against the 2x WNBA MVP. It wasn’t until 7:25 that A’ja Wilson saw the ball go into the bucket through the hoop.

While the visitors did pick up their pace, Sky simply outlasted them through their defense. In all, they had 47 rebounds compared to Aces’ 44 boards. They also had 9 blocks, with Cardoso leading the charge with 5. Contrastingly, Las Vegas only had 6 blocks in the entire game. Still, it is refreshing to see how, although being on opposing teams, Carter could express her true thoughts about the MVP frontrunner A’ja Wilson.
