While there might be bugles and drums about Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, one player who has worked throughout the season without hogging much limelight is the Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson. Though the Aces occupy the fourth position in the league as of now, Wilson with her dominant performances has made herself the most probable candidate to win the MVP race this season by miles. Averaging 27 points per game with 11.8 rebounds per game, Wilson has brushed shoulders with the ex-WNBA star Candace Parker. and that recently came to notice of the fans who were awed by the 27-year-old’s exemplary stat.
A’ja Wilson has so far played 31 games in this season as mentioned before averaging 27 points per game with 11.8 rebounds per game and 2.7 blocks per game. She is the original double-double queen with 10 double-doubles this season: a stat that has gone unnoticed with the emergence of Reese. Plus during the recent game against the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, Wilson hit an exceptional 42 points. Thus, she has been at the forefront both in offense and defense.
The Aces now has only 9 regular games remaining and it is calculated that even if Wilson does not record any stat she will still average 21 points per game, with 9.2 rebounds per game and 2.1 blocks per game. Thus, this will just be the fifth time that a player will record 20+ points per game, with 9+ rebounds and 2+ blocks per game; a feat that has been done by Parker, as per Across The Timeline.

Parker was drafted by the Los Angeles Sparks as the first overall pick in 2008. She continued staying with the Los Angeles franchise and became a mainstay over time. The result? She delivered her best during the 2010 season when she averaged 20.6 points per game with 10.1 rebounds per game and 2.2 blocks per game. Thus she is just the second player in history to achieve the milestone. But then who are the remaining three players?
A’ja Wilson is on her way to making history
The first player to average 20+ points per game with 9+ rebounds per game and 2+ blocks per game was Lauren Jackson. Jackson played for the Seattle Storm in 2007 and scored an exemplary 23.84 points per game with 9.68 rebounds per game and 2.03 blocks per game. Meanwhile, another player to accomplish such stats was Sylvia Fowles when she did it in 2011 as she averaged 20 points per game with 10.21 rebounds per game and 2 blocks per game. However, the fourth player to achieve the milestone would come as a surprise.
The last player to get to the milestone has been Wilson herself. During the 2023 season while taking the Aces to their second consecutive title Wilson averaged 22.8 points per game with 9.5 rebounds per game and 2.23 blocks per game. Thus she will be the first player in history after this season to reach the milestone twice and that too in consecutive years. Looks like Wilson is having the time of her life.

Whether the Aces will be able to go for the three-peat or not is something debatable. Will Wilson win the MVP race this time is something that remains to be seen. However, one thing is sure for generations to come Wilson will be remembered for her feat in the W.
