But whether or not their fabled feud is serious in spirit, the comments that came from the horse’s mouth has now added a new twist to the tale.

An intense on-court face-off between two elite athletes keeps the spectators or the fans on edge and overall benefits the spirit of the game. One such fiery rivalry dazzling the professional world of women’s basketball exists between A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart.

A’ja Wilson opens up on a top rivalry

A’ja was invited by Draymond Green on his podcast to have a chat before her book release. By the end of the interview, she was asked to spare some thoughts on the long-standing rivalry she has with Breanna Stewart. To which A’ja said, “I love it. Stewie and I have been playing against each other for a long long time. It’s crazy to think that we kind of grew up with this little rivalry. At the same time, we’re still cool and I feel like that’s what makes it that much better.”

A’ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart have had a healthy competition for quite some time now. Both these players have elevated the game and have set high standards with their impeccable abilities. A’ja further said, “It’s not beef. Media can make it a beef. Anybody can make it a beef. It’s like when you see us, we’re making each other better every single possession. I think that’s kind of what our game and our league needs.”

It’s rightly said by A’ja that her competitive relationship with Breanna only makes the two stronger. Looking at their stats, one can definitely confirm that the duo really grew up with this rivalry. While A’ja has only played 189 games in the WNBA compared to 223 of Breanna’s, the records are quite indistinguishable. For instance, A’ja scores 19.9 ppg while Breanna gets an average of 20.8 points per game to her team.

Similarly, they only have one point difference in their total assists per game with A’ja making 2.1 and Breanna with 3.1 per game. Their total rebounds match completely at 8.7 per game.
