Is A'ja Wilson the ultimate teammate for standing by Kelsey Plum during her toughest times?

“One day I’ll share my story, today is not that day. Thank you for the grace to process my pain, to forgive and move forward.” Kelsey Plum’s journey has been anything but easy, especially as she navigated personal challenges before the start of this WNBA season. Plum had filed for divorce from her husband of just one year, Darren Waller, and described the experience as devastating. Despite the emotional toll, Plum stepped onto the court and excelled, emerging as the Aces’ second top scorer, trailing only A’ja Wilson. Throughout this difficult time, one person who committed to standing by Plum’s side was Wilson herself, proving the strength of their bond as teammates and friends.

In a recent interview with ESPN, A’ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum briefly discussed Plum’s divorce. During the conversation, Wilson emphasized her desire to ensure that Plum felt surrounded by support during such a challenging time. The 3x MVP said, “I have her back no matter what. It could be those dark days we’ve all been down that may look different for each of us, but we get it. I’m going to be there each step of the way. Whether that’s getting on her nerves, leaving her alone a little, checking in on her.”

The admiration between Kelsey Plum and A’ja Wilson is clearly mutual. Plum has openly praised Wilson and called her the ideal candidate for this year’s MVP award. But her admiration goes beyond just Wilson’s on-court performance; it also encompasses her character. “She’s just a light. Just the type of human being she is. Y’all, we really need to cherish what’s happening live. I mean, unanimous MVP, but unanimous MVP as a human being,” she said about the South Carolina alumna.

In response to Plum’s heartfelt praise, Wilson kept it simple yet meaningful. She shared Plum’s statement on her social media story, captioning it with just two words: “My dawg.” But it’s Wilson’s unwavering support for Plum earlier this season that truly stands out — when the Aces #10, who openly admitted how tough things were for her.

Even during her relationship with Darren Waller, Kelsey Plum kept her wedding date under wraps. That is until Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Josh McDaniels, accidentally spilled the beans during a press conference in March 2023, revealing both the date and the venue. For fans who had followed the couple’s journey, the announcement came as a surprise. However, just three days later, those whispers turned into reality when Plum and Waller officially tied the knot.

Although Plum’s divorce from Darren Waller played out in the public eye, she chose to maintain her silence throughout the process. However, she recently decided to share her experience, revealing the challenges she faced during this difficult time. “Going through a very public divorce is something I was not expecting. It felt like the rug got taken out from under me. I think people may look at me like, ‘Oh, she’s super tough.’ But this one really broke me,” said Plum who has averaged 17.8 point per game this season.
