The Las Vegas Aces delighted the 10,385 people at the Michelob ULTRA Arena by taking down the formidable Connecticut Sun 85-74. This is the seventh time in the last nine occasions that the back-to-back champs have toppled last year’s semi-finalists. However, this is not the only reason the fixture became a memorable affair. As it turns out, the franchise’s kingpin A’ja Wilson managed to add another feather to her cap.
Picking up from where she left last season, the 2× WNBA MVP is exhibiting a phenomenal display of her skills this season as well. For the 19th straight regular season game, she has gone past the 20-point mark which speaks volumes of the kind of form she’s in. Anyhow, there are several other headlines that the power forward has managed to grab. Those were put forth by ESPN’s women’s college basketball, WNBA, and volleyball writer Michael Voepel.
Seemingly, he shared some interesting conclusions about the game in an X post that said, “A’ja Wilson has 9 games this season with at least 20 points & 10 rebounds, which is 5 more than any other player. This is also her 4th game this year with at least 25/15. Two more of those and she has that WNBA single-season record.”

Currently, the player with the most 25-plus points and 15-plus rebounds performances is 2x WNBA scoring champion Tina Charles. The Atlanta Dream center registered such numbers on 5 occasions in her 2021 season. She was a part of the Washington Mystics locker room at that time. Therefore, the 2023 WNBA Finals MVP needs to replicate such performance in her next two games to go where no woman basketball athlete has gone so far.
This begs the question as to who the Las Vegas Aces will face next.
Which teams stand in the way of A’ja Wilson to script history?
The Aces’ first challenge will be a crucial road game at the Wintrust Arena against Angel Reese and Co. This is the first time these two teams will go head-to-head against each other. While most predict Las Vegas to win this contest, it won’t be a walk in the park for A’ja Wilson as Chicago is placed above the Aces in terms of defense.
The same is the case with the Washington Mystics who happen to be the next opponents. A conceding average of 82.7 points per game is currently better than what Las Vegas has (85.5). This fixture will also take place away from home for A’ja Wilson and Co.
