The 2024 ESPYS announced its respective list of recipients. Among the several awards channeled through various sports categories, the night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California celebrated the previous year’s achievements of various athletes. Seemingly, there were some worthy flag bearers from the thrilling world of women’s basketball. As it turns out, the 2× WNBA champion A’ja Wilson grabbed not one but two major accolades at the event. The 27-year-old was recognized as the Best WNBA Player along with the Best Athlete in Women’s Sports for the previous year.
At the same time, USC sensation JuJu Watkins also made her presence felt at the award distribution ceremony. The WBCA Freshman of the Year got her hands on the Best Breakthrough Athlete honor.
But, before she was bestowed with this particular accolade, she put forth some interesting views. This involved the 2023 WNBA Finals MVP A’ja Wilson. Seemingly, on being asked about which WNBA star she would like to be paired with, the 18-year-old extended her desire to play alongside Wilson. Watkins expressed, “I love her. She’s great.”

Anyhow, Wilson was not the only one who cared to react to this future possibility.
Fans hopeful to witness the duo of A’ja Wilson and JuJu Watkins
The followers of both these athletes were eager to convey their take on such a scenario in the WNBA. The Aces currently have one of the most dynamic and explosive line-ups in the league. Along with A’ja Wilson, the trio of Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray on a given day can decimate any defense. Therefore, many would believe that the addition of Watkins would be an absolute nightmare for the Aces’ opponents. Desperately wanting that, one fan wrote, “Yes come to Vegas juju!!!”
A’ja Wilson has by far been the best offensive performer in the WNBA this season. She is currently leading the scoring charts with a total of 564 points while maintaining an average of 26.9 points per contest. On the defensive end as well, she is only second to Angel Reese in terms of rebounds. Therefore, it will be a privilege for any athlete to share the court with someone who many refer to as the “Queen”. Putting this thought forward, one of her supporters wrote, “Everyone wants to play with the Queen”.
In both the championship runs of the Aces, A’ja Wilson turned out to be their standout roster. The 6× WNBA All-Star’s accolade list for these past two seasons provides proof of that. Similarly, USBWA National Freshman of the Year Watkins led the Trojans to their first Elite Eight fixture in almost 30 years. On top of that, she broke numerous records as a freshman and also ended up garnering the second-best numbers in terms of scoring. Consequently, stopping both of them will be grueling for the opposite sides. One of their followers put forth this thought by saying, “OH MY GOD THAT WOULD BE DANGEROUS”.
A’ja Wilson and JuJu Watkins both have the ability to single-handedly influence the result of any game. Both have involved themselves on multiple occasions to turn the tides in their team’s favor through their skills. As a result, it qualifies them in the category of the country’s finest ballers. One of the fans commented on this narrative. Approving their union, the fan wrote, “I like it. Two of America’s Most Wanted”.
Some comparisons also took place in the comments section. According to some people, JuJu draws similarities to the great Michael Jordan, Wilson’s skills resonated with the legendary Wilt Chamberlain. However, the chain of thought doesn’t support such a fusion. Simply because they think that it might overdo things. Keeping that in mind, one fan expressed, “Juju like the next MJ and Aja is like Wilt… them together is a bit of an overkill”.
