The Las Vegas Aces have been on a mission this season as they look to retain their WNBA crown. Having defeated the Cincinnati Suns in four games last season, the Aces have made it to back-to-back Finals. They look to upset the NY Liberty’s quest for their first-ever WNBA title. The Liberty are back in the Finals for the first time since 2002. They will be looking to win their first championship as MVP winner Breanna Stewart leads them against A’ja Wilson and the Aces.

The NY side beat the Aces in the Commissioner’s Cup earlier this year. However, the script hasn’t been the same in the WNBA Finals. The Vegas side took game 1 of the series last night. A’ja Wilson and co. were in full swing during the game with their efforts on the night, earning them a win while also helping them get a place in the WNBA history books.

The Las Vegas Aces were victorious against the New York Liberty during Game 1 of the WNBA Finals as they inched a step closer to retaining their title. MVP winner Breanna Stewart was a shining light for the Liberty. But she could not prevent her team from losing as a complete team display from the Aces subdued the Liberty star.

While Breanna was a one-girl army on the night receiving minimal support from her teammates, the same cannot be said about A’ja and the Aces, as they collectively nullified the Liberty team.

A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, Chelsea Gray, and Jackie Young combined to score 91 out of the 99 points for the Aces. They became the first quartet to score this many points during a WNBA Finals game. This record-breaking feat showed the togetherness that the Vegas side has as they look to clinch their second title in the coming weeks.

While the quartet’s record-breaking performance was a highlight of the night, the win over the Liberty however will be sweeter than any broken records. The two sides have been the teams to beat in their respective conferences this season and the 2023 Finals is easily the most anticipated one we have had in years.
