Usher and a $180 million rapper repping the Aces—Is celebrity support the key to WNBA's growth?

Last night was not the lucky one for the Las Vegas Aces. The hosting back-to-back champions went onto the floor with a slow start and fell hard in front of the young Chicago Sky. In the same game, Kate Martin also got injured. While a lot of negatives happened to the team in their last game before the Olympics break, there was one reason to smile for the reigning WNBA Finals MVP.

After all, A’ja Wilson got to see Usher cheering for her from the Aces bench. But the love also came with some comments directed towards her own teammates.

After losing 85-93 at home, A’ja Wilson finally got the chance to do what she had requested for the last two years. The 2x WNBA champion exchanged her jersey with Usher. But before that, the camera caught her trolling her teammate. She told Sydney Colson, “They ain’t did sh*t all day but they wanna get a motherf*****g picture with Usher!”

While the Aces star seemed clearly frustrated with the loss, evidence of it all disappeared as the rapper came her way. She exchanged her jersey with Usher and shared some loving words with her idol. Certainly, the singer had to listen to the frontrunner candidate of the MVP race in the third year. But do you remember the last time these two popular faces of their respective fields met in Vegas?

Recapping A’ja Wilson’s epic meeting with Usher

Whether you are an Aces fan or not, there’s a high chance that you will know a few facts about this team. While their back-to-back World Champion titles are the first things that come to mind, one would surely be A’ja Wilson’s love for Usher. The 6x Olympian made it a note that the rapper knew about her wish to come to one of her games and later in the victory parade. Still, the pop star could not make it.

However, he did invite the entire Las Vegas squad to the ‘My Way’ residency in Sin City. He also posted on his X, “Couldn’t be at the parade, but I wanted to send this out to you to say congratulations to you and all the lovely ladies that, once again, did it again. But anyway, listen, I want to invite you to come see the show. Come see me do ‘My Way’ here in Vegas. We stick together. We love one another. Congratulations on this day and I’ll see you soon.”

Have an interesting take?

Surely enough, the entire crew was present at the concert as they completely took it over. From Usher giving a shout-out to the 2x champions to A’ja Wilson getting ‘special treatment,’ the Aces proved that they could manifest their dreams into reality. Interestingly, Angel Reese also requested the ‘King of R&B to attend her game. Last night, both the stars were present and got their wishes fulfilled. In all, the night ended with something to smile about for both teams.
