Amidst the hype surrounding the incoming rookies, the Atlanta Dream weren’t in any preseason conversations. And looks like they have taken the disrespect by heart. Continuing their impressive start to the season, they have now made the headlines for defeating one of the best teams in the league and the defending champions Las Vegas Aces. But taking down the powerhouse came at a price as both Jackie Young of the Aces and Aerial Powers of the Dream got hit with double technicals.
Tonight, the Aces continued their road journey in Atlanta. However, their surprisingly weak offense led to an unexpected loss. But their loss to the Dream was not as big a highlight as the uncontrollable passion was. In fact, the same turned into Jackie Young jawing at Aerial Powers.
During the last three minutes of the game, where Atlanta was already leading by 4 points, A’ja Wilson caught the jump ball deflected by Young in the low post. As soon as she spun around her defender to drive to the basket, she was fouled. Powers, however, quickly blocked the reigning MVP’s shot despite it coming after the whistle. This led to a full-blown heated conversation between Powers and Young and the two teams forcefully separated the two players. Consequently, Forsberg handed the two their first technical fouls for the season.

Later, Powers talked about the incident. She commented, “I don’t know if you’d call that a chat. It was a little getting at it. She said I wasn’t like that. And I’m like that.”
Aerial Powers and Atlanta had the last laugh at their home court as they overpowered the 2x WNBA champions. While it was first technical for Jackie Young, she has been showing her other side already as previously too she got into an ugly interaction.
The “Silent Assassin” Jackie Young is breaking her silence with every defeat
Las Vegas is on a three-peat mission, something which is very rare in the professional basketball league. However, their defensive weapon Jackie Young picking up fouls for heated conversations may not turn out to be the best news for them. Previously, she grabbed a personal foul as she clawed at Phoenix Mercury’s Sophie Cunningham. Then, too, Phoenix was leading and ended up winning the game, giving the hosts a defeat at Michelob ULTRA Arena.
Last year as well, Jackie Young grabbed one technical foul and a flagrant foul. She also added 80 personal fouls to the mix, fourth highest in the team for the season. Hence, it may look like her nickname “the silent assassin” is not the perfect match here. It is also interesting to note that Young has advanced to such conversations only when the Aces are in a losing position. While there is no surety if the two things have anything in common, the season has just started.

What we know is that the Atlanta team who did not draft any of the talents from the 2024 “GOAT” class and does not exactly have any superstar power is turning everyone’s heads. Although it is quite early in the season, their ability to take down good teams can push them into some playoff-worthy talks. The Aces will now try to grab a win as they finish their three-game road journey by traveling to Dallas and taking on Arike Ogunbowale and Co.
