The All-Star Weekend is knocking on our doorstep already. In a fortnight, we will see the only rookie duo since 2015 to feature in the event. While Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese will definitely help increase the temperature of Phoenix’s desert, one pair divided into two opposing teams will also be a view to withhold. Connecticut Sun’s power couple Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner will go against each other. And looks like after giving a fair warning to her fiance to “bust her up,” the league’s fifth all-time leading scorer is ready for a vacation.
After last night’s win, Connecticut’s top scorer had a few words to say to Thomas sitting beside her. First, she gave her a neutral warning, telling the postgame presser, “At the end of the day, we’re trying to prepare them for winning gold. I’m cheering hard for them. I want them to do well.” However, she also added that she will not let Team USA win by a 50-point margin.
But DeWanna Bonner, who is now a 6x WNBA All-Star, is more relaxed. Talking about her role in the Team All-Star, the 36-year-old hooper added, “This is my sixth one, it’s a goal of mine. I’m gonna sit back, I’m gonna enjoy. I’m not going to put too much pressure on it. It’s a game that I can finally play and just relax and enjoy. Doesn’t mean anything. It’s gonna be an equal battle for me. Like I said, I’m gonna be on vacation at that point.”

Interestingly, just a week ago, DeWanna Bonner had said something contrasting. Of course, then, the All-Star list was not out. Here is what she had to say when she did not have a confirmation of the votes.
DeWanna Bonner calls a matchup against fiance a “love competition”
Previously, the 2x WNBA champion had mentioned how she would not let Alyssa Thomas go away with an easy win. Keeping up with her feelings, she also told the presser, “If I get on the team, I’m really gonna try to bust her up.” However, she was quick to mention that if she scores in Thomas’ face, she will simply leave the floor to not face any further consequences.

She expressed how, despite it being a competition, she wants it to stay a friendly game of preparing the Team USA. The 6-ft-4 guard had previously said, “So, definitely a little love competition, friendly competition. Hopefully, I make it. It’ll be fun.” While Alyssa Thomas has not mentioned anything about the upcoming duel, she surely must be as excited as DeWanna Bonner too.

About the All-Star team, we are on to some heavyweight competition. The top fan-based vote-getters in the league were Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, and Angel Reese. However, the two veterans will be on Team USA, leaving the rest for Team WNBA. DeWanna Bonner will be the player with the most All-Star Games played on Team WNBA after Nneka Ogwumike who stands at the top with 9 such honors. It’ll be a really exciting matchup for sure.
