In Chicago Sky’s fourth game of the WNBA 2024 against the Connecticut Sun, the stage was set for the Sky to win the game with their dominant Q1 and Q2. However, in a shocking turn of events the Sun had the last laugh and trumped Chicago at their home in Wintrust Arena. This certainly baffled the home team who had started losing grasp on the game from the second half onwards. Their head coach Teresa Weatherspoon spoke of the discouraging story towards the end of the game and how Angel Reese & Co. cope with defeats.
Weatherspoon was present in the post-match press conference on Saturday and reflected on the accidental loss. Her words gave a glimpse into the team’s morale.

Weatherspoon was asked about how she manages the team, particularly after a loss, and what their approach is moving forward. And her reply showed her strong mindset. The video of the same was uploaded as a YouTube short.
“Well if… if you all could see the locker room, you can see just how competitive our team is and how a loss really affects them. You know, so it’s important for us to make sure that we make sure that they’re okay before we step back into the gym knowing that these things happen. We got to go back and we got to correct them. And for me as a coach you know there’s a lot of learning lessons for me as well and like I told them and I tell them always I’ll look at me before I look at you,” Weatherspoon stated.
The Sky were going well in the first two quarters in which they smashed 24 and 26 points as opposed to the Sun’s 23 and 19. Therefore, the Sky was ahead of the Sun at the end of the second half by a 50-42 margin. Things looked to be going right for the Sky but they were beaten in the next two quarters when the Sun scored a cumulative 44 points as opposed to the Sky’s 32.
Even towards the end of the fourth quarter, the Sky looked dominant as they led by a narrow margin of 78-79, but as the game neared an end Sun’s DeWanna Bonner and Tyasha Harris unleashed their demons to take the Sun to a resounding victory of 86-82. As stated by Weatherspoon, this is a great opportunity for Reese & Co. to learn from their defeats and come back stronger. However, the Sky fans endured a heartbreak since one of their biggest stars Angel Reese’s tactics couldn’t secure them a victory.
Is Angel Reese faltering in her performances?
In the meantime, Reese could only pot 13 points and fans expected her to take the onus of the Sky into her own hands like she did when she used to ply her trade for the LSU Lady Tigers. But albeit, she couldn’t save her team from the jaws of the defeat.
A look of questions have been raised lately on Reese considering she averages only 12.3 points per game with 7.8 rebounds per match. Looks like she is taking her time to adjust to the game at the highest level.
