The Phoenix Mercury’s mixed fortunes this season continue to unfold. After their two-game winning streak against heavyweights like Seattle Storm and the New York Liberty, they were at the receiving end of a negative result at the hands of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup champions, the Minnesota Lynx. Now, they have another uphill task standing in the form of an NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. However, that doesn’t seem to scare their head coach Nate Tibbets or Diana Taurasi.

Before this high-octane clash, the 47-year-old spared a thought or two on how they’ll approach Caitlin Clark. He said, “The fun part for our group is that they kind of see everything. Obviously, we haven’t played against her yet. But, nothing is too big for our group. From a leadership standpoint as far as our players and what they’ve seen.”

In addition to this, Tibbets also expressed that the fixture is crucial for them and also presents a chance to show their true potential. He further added, “So, I’m sure we’ll be excited about it and it’s just another opportunity to prove ourselves around the league.”

The Mercury and the Fever are set to lock horns at the Footprint Center this Sunday. This marks the first occasion when Caitlin Clark and Co. face veterans like Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner. However, Tibbets is not the only one who cares to comment on the 2× USBWA National Player of the Year.

Diana Taurasi looks forward to facing Caitlin Clark

Apart from Nate Tibbets, the 3× WNBA champion Diana Taurasi is also confident about her face-off with the rookie. In a recent media availability session, she just needed a three-word response, to sum up her views when asked to comment on Caitlin Clark. Seemingly, Taurasi said with a straight face, “It’ll be fun.

This comes after she had previously extended a range of opinions about the 6-foot-guard. From her superhuman jibe to calling Clark’s fans “sensitive“, the 5x Olympic gold medalist doesn’t shy away from taking bold and unapologetic shots at the No.1 overall WNBA draft pick.
