To know A’ja Wilson better, ask her teammates. While she’s a “Human MVP” for Kelsey Plum, Alysha Clark believes her to be a “superstar.” This simply means that the LV Aces’ center is not only a standout on the court but also an impressive human off it. However, despite all her skills, her teammates feel there’s something about her that isn’t often discussed.
“It’s her humility,” shared Alysha Clark. In a post-game press conference, Alysha Clark sat alongside Aces’ standout A’ja Wilson to share their thoughts on the recent win against the Indiana Fever. As they discussed the game, Clark highlighted Wilson’s impressive gameplay and how she’s sometimes overlooked. “She (A’ja Wilson) makes you feel welcome, she makes you feel seen and heard,” said Clark while wiping away her tears.
For Clark, it’s Wilson’s broad smile, which she brings to the court each time in front of large crowds, that impresses her the most. “And I don’t think people understand how special that is… being a superstar plus showing leadership, that’s insane,” she added while praising Wilson for her remarkable work.

Not from broadcasters but from her loved ones. It all began with the game at Gainbridge Arena, where Wilson and her team faced the Indiana Fever. While it seemed like a matchup between two teams, it ultimately came down to a clash between two standouts. The 28-year-old Wilson was vying for the highest score in a regular season record, while rookie star Clark was aiming for the record for most assists in a regular season.

As the clock ticked down to 26.1 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Wilson made history with a 17-foot jumper. She contributed two of her team’s 86 points for the evening. Meanwhile, she also ended up surpassing Jewell Loyd’s previous record of 939 points set last year. Now, she’s already at 956 and still counting.
Surprisingly, Wilson’s achievement went unmentioned after the announcers seemingly failed to notice that the last 2-pointer of the 2nd quarter was a record making shot. Fans even accused the league being too focused on Caitlin Clark who fell short of 7 assists in accomplishing her record. But from Dawn Staley to her teammates, everyone made sure to give Wilson her flowers. “When the love comes from loved ones, it’s fulfilling enough!” Wilson’s former coach declared.
