Once in the pro league, the W tests every player meticulously and hence there is nothing better for a rookie than to have someone supporting their transition. The Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink found a “second mom” in one of the Sparks veterans, and now Rickea Jackson has come forward to claim that the same stalwart has helped her transition easily into the league and is her “partner in crime”.
Jackson was present in the postgame press conference along with her head coach Curt Miller and Los Angeles star Dearica Hamby when she thanked the latter for being a constant source of support for her. This gave an insight into the friendly environment in the Sparks’ camp which has helped the team scale heights.

Jackson shared that Hamby’s leadership has been top-notch and has benefited her immensely. She went as far as saying that it was Hamby who had been quite supportive of her transition and it has definitely helped her on the court. “Yeah, D’s leadership has been big for me. She keeps me sane on and off the court. She texts me and just always lets me know, you know that she’s there for me. And what I can do better. She stays on me when I need it as well. She holds me accountable, but on a court you know she leads by example and she’s a vocal leader,” Jackson said in the postgame conference.
“She just does everything for me. Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better teammate. I don’t know where I would be if D was not here. So you know just having her has really helped my transition to the league much smoother than it would have been if she wasn’t here,” Jackson added.
The Los Angeles Sparks played their recent game against the Dallas Wings on Saturday and won by an 87-81 margin at the College Park Center. Though the Sparks trailed in the second and third quarters they took a crucial lead in both the first and fourth quarters that helped them win. And much of the credit for their exceptional display goes to Hamby and Jackson.
While Hamby scored a game-high 27 points, Jackson hit the second-highest for her team – 23 points. Hence, Hamby demonstrated that on the court Jackson was her partner in crime always ready to help the team whenever they faced the threat of a defeat. Other than that, Hamby also helped with 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Meanwhile, Jackson added 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Hence, it was a comprehensive performance from the two stars. Meanwhile, Brink had also previously stated about the team-building qualities of Hamby.

Cameron Brink had thanked Dearica Hamby
Brink had previously expressed on the draft night that she was excited to play with Hamby, as per SiriusXM. The 22-year-old had praised the veteran for being a “well-rounded player” and also expressed her liking for her work ethic. Brink that night also shared that she was excited to play against opponents seeing whom she had developed her game. Hamby reciprocated Brink with the same love and excitement that the latter had enunciated.
Hence, Brink during the Sparks’ practice shared that she was adjusting well to the team and much of the credit went to Hamby. “I love Dearica, she’s like my second mom already so…,” Brink had enunciated.
Perhaps, it is this support and love from Hamby that has propelled rookies like Jackson to give their best. And hopefully, once Brink comes back from her injury she will be as effective as any other professional W player, much thanks to how Hamby takes care of the team dynamics.
