Sydney Colson is known for displaying a short, sweet but effective game on the basketball court. And that is what her approach was when she was asked to weigh in about a recent fallout between two eminent basketball personalities. Many hold the notion that Stephen A Smith has the ability to narrate the developments in women’s basketball. That’s what the American sports television personality was sure about—that he had been doing it for quite some time. However, he was at the receiving end of a major reality check.
After the American sports analyst Monica McNutt shut Smith up, Aces’ Sydney Colson too joined the charge with her. During the media availability today, Colson shared a one-word message with the press. The reporter asked her if she had any thoughts on how McNutt had a mic-drop moment against Smith and that he should have covered women’s sports for three years as well. Colson straight-forwardly responded, “Agreed” to the inquiry, baffling the reporter.
Apparently, Monica McNutt’s views were slightly different when she weighed in on the later segment of ESPN’s “First Take” on Monday morning. Stephen A. Smith was convinced that he was doing his significant bit in giving women’s basketball their fair share of recognition. Although he didn’t expect the other “First Take” panelists to disagree with his statement.

While Sydney Colson had a rather cold response to Stephen A. Smith’s latest slamming, she did talk about the Aces’ comeback from the recent loss against the Atlanta Dream.
Sydney Colson shares the inside scoop on Aces’ upcoming plans
The Aces will now have a rough patch to cover during the Commissioner’s Cup weeks. With 6 upcoming days in the stretch of 12 days, Colson talked about their strategy to bounce back after the unexpected loss. She said, “We watched films today, just to address things that we are not doing well consistently. Then we came out and we had a good practice to follow it up.”

She also talked about the focal points that the team would like to work on in the upcoming games. She said, “I think we’re focusing on our defense honestly. Because a lot of times offensively, you can’t always control the ball going in but we can control the mistakes we are making defensively.” To the list of improvements, the veteran also added that they need to work on their communication.
This is not the first time that the two-time reigning champions have had difficulties with their defense. In fact, they previously let go of the 2024 draft’s 16th overall pick Dyaisha Fair because she lacked defensive abilities. Moreover, they are currently ranking in the lowest stands on many defensive aspects of the game, which a team on a three-peat mission might not want.
