The WNBA has a lot of ebbs and flows and highs and lows. The Washington Mystics rookie Aaliyah Edwards is facing one such difficult time. Apart from a lower back injury that has kept Edwards on the sidelines, her team is facing a disastrous time as they occupy the 12th place in the WNBA rankings with an abysmal 4-14. In these tough times, Edwards has found inspiration in the NBA legend Kobe Bryant‘s ‘Mamba Mentality.’

Edwards took to the social media networking platform Instagram and posted a story that had Bryant’s dialogues. The video had a gratuitous spirit to the divine powers that have helped them keep afloat everything and gave hope during tough times. “God is great. There is nothing simpler than that, bro. God is great. You can know it all you want until you go to pick up that cross that you can’t carry and he picks it up for you and carries you and the cross,” Bryant was seen saying in the video.

Bryant was famous for his Mamba Mentality. He chose to participate in the NBA for his team even when he was injured. He went through rigorous training and extended his capabilities despite facing setbacks. All this garnered him a lot of followers and got Bryant 5 NBA Championships. Meanwhile, as for Edwards, she has been out of three consecutive games due to a lower back injury.

It is not only Edwards but also other Mystics’ players Shakira Austin and Brittney Sykes who have been injured. And all this has impacted the Mystics who are placed at the 12th position in the WNBA and are not able to find a chance for a comeback anytime soon. The only hope for the Mystics is that Edwards who was drafted this season participated in their workout before the game against the Connecticut Sun which might give a signal of her comeback in the squad in the upcoming games. But Edwards looks to get into her zone of Mamba Mentality even when she was playing in college basketball.

The 21-year-old was playing for the University of Connecticut Huskies when she injured her nose during the quarterfinals of the Big East Conference. The injury happened during the third quarter and Edwards had to miss out the remainder of the game. However, Edwards didn’t comply with the medics as she wore a face cup and returned to the game in the fourth quarter.

All this points out how she has been dealing with injuries throughout her career and nonetheless is giving a tough fight whenever she has gotten a chance. Edwards in that game scored 12 points, with 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

Perhaps all Edwards needs is to gain her peace of mind which has been done through Kobe’s videos. Hopefully, she will once again follow the Mamba Mentality and soon make a comeback for her team to lift them out of the shackles of defeat.
