Since being selected as the first overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, Sabrina Ionescu, the star player for the New York Liberty, has definitely had a seismic impact on the WNBA landscape.
It is impossible to overestimate Ionescu’s impact on the court. She has become the Liberty’s main catalyst, propelling them to the WNBA playoff semifinals. Notably, being the talented basketball icon she is, she has managed to get signed by many prominent brands including Xbox, Boardroom, Body Armour and even Nike.

Meanwhile, a day after Anthony Edwards’ ‘failure’, Sabrina Ionescu gloats over her success above the new-gen stars Luka Doncic, Breanna Stewart and Ja Morant.

Sabrina Ionescu signed a game-changing multiyear sponsorship agreement with sportswear giant Nike back in 2020. The financial terms of this significant deal remain shrouded in secrecy. Notably, her collaboration with Nike turned out to be one that fans and sneakerheads adore.

However, the same cannot be said for Anthony Edwards who recently unveiled the logo for collaboration with Adidas.

The NBA star hasn’t revealed the official date of release of his shoes. However, it turns out, fans aren’t digging the logo.

Comments such as “Damn that’s a**,” “That’s some lazy shit! It look like some shit in a pool hall,” and “This is why people go to Nike” flooded the comment section of the post.

Fortunately for the WNBA star Ionescu, she can’t relate to Edwards’ struggle.

An Instagram post of Boardroom caught Sabrina Ionescu’s eye. With pictures of many of the basketball community’s rising stars’ logos, including those of Ionescu, Luka Doncic, Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant and Breanna Stewart, among others, the post asked, “Which rising hoop star has the best signature logo?”

Sabrina Ionescu remains confident in hers. She shared the post on her story, writing, “Easy choice here.” Notably, many in the comments agree with her.

Meanwhile, Ionescu came out with her very own signature shoes this month.

Sabrina Ionescu gets her own shoe

Sabrina Ionescu, the outstanding point guard of the New York Liberty recently launched her own Nike signature shoes. With ‘Sabrina 1,’ she becomes the 12th WNBA player to have a shoe with her name on it. In addition, Sabrina Ionescu follows Elena Delle Donne, who just last year debuted her own trademark shoe, as the second female athlete to get such a distinction from Nike in over a decade.

Since their unveiling in February, the Sabrina 1s have generated a lot of interest from both fans and sneakerheads. These sneakers finally hit the shelves after seven months of waiting in September. With joyful memories of her journey from playing basketball in Nike Dunks to seeing her name appear on shoeboxes all around the world, Sabrina Ionescu holds a special meaning in her accomplishment. She expressed her joy and gratitude for this extraordinary accomplishment in an interview with CBS Mornings.

Ionescu said of the shoe, “It’s been years in the making. The design has been really fun, partnering with Nike. The swoosh being upwards on the inside is just no glass ceilings, breaking barriers. There are so many hidden designs in the shoe that I’m excited to be able to tell my story to the world.” Moreover, the Sabrina 1 line is also Nike’s first unisex signature shoe, which is in line with Ionescu’s philosophy of inclusivity and equal opportunity.

Sabrina Ionescu now joins the ranks of legends like Serena Williams, Megan Rapinoe and Naomi Osaka who all have Nike signature collections.

“They’re legends,” Ionescu said about the same. “In their respective sports but also just as people and what they mean to the sports world. I’m super excited to represent Nike and myself and continue to change the game.”
