Is A'ja Wilson the most consistent player in WNBA history, or is there someone better?

Kelsey Plum couldn’t help but rave about A’ja Wilson a few months ago. “We’re watching one of the greatest players of all time in front of our eyes,” she exclaimed. It’s no wonder Plum was so enthusiastic. The 2x MVP has been absolutely dominant this season, recently hitting the 1,000-point milestone. Now, Rebecca Lobo is adding her voice to the chorus of acclaim, shedding light on what makes Wilson such a standout athlete.

During a recent discussion on NBA Today, the focus was all on A’ja Wilson and her remarkable season. When Rebecca Lobo had her turn to opine, she didn’t hold back her praise. “And one thing that’s really struck me about this ridiculous season that she has had is that she has not had any stretches where there’s been any kind of a slump. She has not had back-to-back games this season where she shot under 40%. She has not had back-to-back games this season where she has scored less than 20,” said the 50-year-old analyst.

Well, Lobo’s remarks are an utter reflection of the Aces forward’s consistency as there have been just four out of 37 outings where she has scored less than 20 points. With an impressive 1,000 points already to her name and a stellar 51.9% shooting accuracy from the field, the 27-year-old’s performance has been nothing short of extraordinary.

However, Lobo also pointed out, “Even in the one game where you would say maybe she’s struggled a little bit from the field against Chicago when she was 8 for 28, she still hit the walk-off game, winning shot at the end. She has not only been great, she has been consistently great and clearly a teammate that everyone loves to play with.”

The South Carolina alum has even been mentioned as a potential ‘Unanimous MVP’ this season, a rare honor only achieved by Cynthia Cooper in 1997. While it’s not guaranteed that she’ll claim the title unanimously, the 2-time MVP has certainly set a new standard with her milestone performance against the Connecticut Sun.

A’ja Wilson made history as the first WNBA player to score 1,000 points in a single season, dropping 29 points in the Las Vegas Aces’ 84-71 victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. She reached the milestone with a smooth mid-range jumper in the fourth quarter, and the moment didn’t go unnoticed. Cameras caught the Aces’ bench erupting in celebration, as her teammates cheered Wilson’s remarkable achievement with excitement.

After hitting her historic milestone, A’ja Wilson took a moment to soak in the crowd’s roaring ovation, clapping her hands as the arena erupted in cheers. Among the sea of applause, was her father, Roscoe Wilson Jr., who has been her coach since day one, and her mother, Eva, who was the one to instill a strong work ethic in her. This season, Wilson has been dominating with an impressive average of 27 points and 12 rebounds per game. With two games remaining, the 2x WNBA champion is in striking distance of breaking the single-season rebounds record as well. It will be fascinating to see if the potential ‘Unanimous MVP’ can surpass the injured Angel Reese in the rebound standings.

Up next, Wilson and the Aces will take on the Seattle Storm on Tuesday night.
