George Russell’s future has been a topic of speculation for months now regarding his move to Mercedes next season. Furthermore, Williams team principal Jost Capito is not ruling out any possibility of a swap deal involving Valtteri Bottas.

George Russell drew everyone’s attention in Formula 1 when he replaced the seven-time world champion at the Bahrain GP 2020 because Lewis Hamilton had tested positive for the coronavirus. Russel looked poised to win the race until he got involved in a botched pit stop.

Valtteri Bottas has had an arduous last two race weekends as he added no points to his Drivers’ Championship tally. Moreover, the Finn is expected to return to his former team Williams with whom he started his Formula 1 career.

What did Jost Capito say?

Williams team principal, Jost Capito has admitted he has good relations with Toto Wolff and anything is possible this season. Moreover, he hopes that George Russell should stay at Williams until the end of the current season.

“At the moment I wouldn’t rule anything out. It’s all open. We assume that George will be with us until the end of the season, and he would like that too. Everything else is speculation,” said Jost Capito.

“We have a contract with him, which is valid. But you know that anything can be arranged if it is necessary. I have a good relationship with Toto. He can call me at any time.”

Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko believes thinks a mid-season Russell-Bottas swap is definitely possible.

“It wouldn’t surprise me,” said Red Bull advisor Marko.

“Russell has been parked at Williams for long enough, and last year he proved how competitive he is in Hamilton’s car. He can’t put his career on hold for any longer.”
