Following Twitch’s heavy interference, the trend of Hot-Tub streams has slightly decreased in popularity over the past few weeks. Countless streamers and viewers voiced their concerns about the issue, which lead to a major crackdown from the platform. But it seems like Twitch also has another meta problem that might create issues for some of their superstar creators, like xQc.
For months, xQc and many prominent streamers have streamed their gambling sessions involving online slot-machines. Many creators have called Felix and others out for promoting these kinds of streams on their channel. But it seems like these creators might have more problems at their hands and they might find themselves at loggerheads with the law.
So they’re nearly all using “https://t.co/OaVMaOuY58” which is a Curacao licensed, crypto accepting operator with a variety of slot games. I’ve seen most the streamers have “VIP” access, and are all gambling with upwards of $10/15k+ in their accounts.

xQc and the rise in gambling streams on Twitch
Recently, a Twitter thread from Ollie Ring detailed the issues surrounding gambling streams on Twitch. He mentioned that players like xQc play on websites like Stakes.com, which is an operator based out of Curacao. These operators have allowed VIP access to many of them, and they play while dealing about $10,000-15,000 in their accounts.
When I clicked on his Twitch I did not get an indication that his stream was for “mature audiences” so there’s no gating here. He’s also glamorising, and using sponsorship and hype to promote gambling (hark back to the days of when CS:GO became skin-roulette for ages)

Ring stated that Felix has a hand in influencing his audience, which is predominantly occupied by young teenagers. In many countries, gambling is limited to adults or even banned in some places. But, these content creators have posted no warnings regarding the content being for “mature audiences”. Along with that, he also said that these streamers promote gambling with the help of sponsorships from the operators. Because of it, this could seriously affect a lot of teenagers and kids who watch these streams.

Problems with the law

Ring also talked about the possibility of xQc falling in trouble with the law. He mentioned that Felix streams from his house in Texas, and the state has one of the harshest gambling laws in America. It’s illegal to play slots with actual money in Texas, and xQc’s activities literally breaks the law. Other than that, players have had to stream these slot games using a VPN, because the websites are blocked in certain locations.
In addition, another https://t.co/OaVMaOuY58 streamer I watched, had !stakes in – no mention of #ad and also said that in his home country (Australia) where Stakes again does not hold a licence (Curacao licensed) that a VPN is needed as it’s blocked.

There are some major problems that can have a big effect on the younger generation because gambling can be very addictive. Additionally, these streams are also breaking the laws in some locations. So it remains to be seen how streamers like xQc will respond to the growing criticisms from fans and viewers.
