Patrick Mahomes threw a pass clocking 62 miles per hour a week before he was drafted. The 24-year-old quarterback’s pass came during practice sessions alongside 40-year-old 69ers quarterback, David Carr. On that day, Patrick went from 50 mph on his warmup throw to 62 mph on his third. He has been an integral part of Kansas City Chiefs ever since he was signed back in 2017. It was the Chiefs’ first Quarterback draft in the first round since the 1983 NFL Draft.

His prudent athleticism is one reason why the Kansas City Chiefs won a Super Bowl after 50 years. If it wasn’t for his fourth-quarter comeback, Chiefs would’ve been in a precarious position. So this 62 mph throw doesn’t come as a surprise to those who are familiar with his triumphant career thus far.

From Rookie to NFL MVP

Mahomes’ participation was limited in the 2017 season. However, going into the 2018 season, he replaced Alex Smith as the starting quarterback. The decision came shortly after Chiefs agreed on trading Alex. His very first game resulted in an emphatic victory for the Chiefs, as they beat their division rival Los Angeles Chargers, 38-28. His quarterback rating stood 127.5 in that match, which made him the AFC Offensive Player of the week. By now, Mahomes was starting to make waves in the NFL.

He asserted his dominance in the next few weeks as well. Towards the end of his first 3 career games, he broke the record of most touchdown passes in a span of 3 games. He won back-to-back AFC offensive player of the week. He was the first quarterback since Tom Brady to win consecutive positions in the start of the season. In addition to that, Mahomes also won Offensive Player of the Month.

Mahomes’ commendable performances in the league handed Chiefs their home playoff win since 1993. He earned a lot of accolades including  Best NFL Player ESPY Award, Pro Bowl, AFC Offensive Player of the year and the coveted NFL MVP. The 24-year-old became the first-ever winner for the Chiefs. He concluded his season holding 4th position in the league’s Top 100 players list.

With an MVP award in the 2018 Season, Patrick Mahomes would continue to lead the team to various victories in the 2019 season. All of which culminated in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory. For his remarkable run on the Super Bowl game, he was given the Super Bowl MVP. He threw 286 yards and 2 touchdowns before rushing for another 29 yards and 1 touchdown He also showed a great difference in his statistics, as he finished the season with only 5 interceptions while he had 12 last season.

Patrick Mahomes’ 2020 season

Having given his best to Chiefs, it was obvious that Chiefs would continue starting games with him. On April 30, Chiefs picked up the fifth-year option on him. Buying him for a fully guaranteed four-year contract worth $16.4 Million in 2017, Patricks’ current rookie contract expands to $41 Million over 5 years. Needless to say, he will surely be a force to be reckoned with in the 2020 season, on and off the field. He is already on the headlines after roasting Call of Duty player, Josiah “Slacked” Berry. His remarks came shortly after Philadelphia Eagles’ Darius Slay praised the player.
