The world today looks at swimming legend Michael Phelps in awe. However, the journey of becoming one of the most decorated Olympians ever started with just a dream. A dream transformed into reality by a young boy from Baltimore, Maryland. The world might only care about those 23 Olympic gold medals he won, but an important part of his journey was the beginning.

Michael Phelps is proof that when hard work and perseverance are combined, greatness is inevitable. Becoming the best swimmer in the world is not a day’s game. It requires tremendous dedication, and Michael gave his everything to the sport he had dominated for so long.
When did Michael Phelps start his journey?
If you ask him how did he accomplish such great things in his career, he would say, “It was a fun 20 years, it was crazy. Everything started with a dream of being an Olympic champion.” As a child, Michael was inspired by his elder sister and swimming legends like Tom Malchow and Tom Dolan. Furthermore, during his early years, swimming was the only interesting part of his life.

Michael was 7-year-old when he started swimming and after a couple of years, he was beating everyone in his age group. Under the guidance of his coach Bob Bowman, he made his way into US national B team at 14. While in the year 2000, he became the youngest ever American swimmer to make it to the Olympics, and the rest is history.

Michael Phelps will always be an inspiration. An icon the world will remember forever. There is an obvious doubt if anyone will be able to touch his records or not. However, there’s a surety that no one can achieve such greatness as him.
