Fletcher came through the ranks of Manchester United’s Youth Academy and has won five Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, making 222 appearances in process. But since suffering from ulcerative colitis, Fletcher has been unable to cement his position as a regular in United squad.

This season, after having an excellent pre season and being named as club’s vice captain, he has fallen down in the pecking order with likes of Ander Harera, Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind preferred by Louis van Gaal. Return of Micheal Carrick has also made chances hard to come by. Coming on as a sub most of the time, Fletcher has not started any game since December 20.

But Tony Pulis, who has had a positive start since joining the club and is unbeaten in first 3 matches of his new tenure, latest being a 0-0 draw against Everton, believes that Fletcher is very much the player he needs.
