Weili Zhang pushes her rematch with Joanna Jedrzejczyk to the back-burner by stating she wants a new opponent for her next bout.

Both fighters came out heavily bruised, with Joanna Jedrzejczyk suffering a hematoma due to her opponent’s attacking prowess. Weili Zhang is not looking for a rematch
Weili Zhang to fight someone else for now. She wants to give other fighters a chance, especially since her new found fame has opened more avenues. The rematch with Joanna will have to wait.

When asked about her next fight, Weili said, “I have no clue when my next fight would be yet, since everything is stuck by this COVID-19 pandemic.” The fighter added, “I would like to fight here in the U.S. again since I have seen a massive number of Chinese and Asian people here motivated by my fight who will definitely cheer for me, and also U.S. has the biggest MMA fan base. I don’t want the rematch yet. I would like to give opportunities to other fighters in line.”

The Strawweight champ clearly knows what she wants. When will her next fight be? This isn’t easy to answer. The pandemic has put major sporting events across the world on hold. Many expect her to take on the winner of Jessica Andrade vs. Rose Namajunas. But none of this is certain as yet.
