The New York Knicks have signed a five-year deal with Tom Thibodeau as their new head coach. The defensive-minded leader will be the 30th coach for the Knicks. Previously, he has been the head coach for Chicago Bulls. It was his stellar background with the help of which they were considered to have the best defense in the 2010-11 and 2013-14 seasons.

The Knicks are a team that is known for mostly drafting younger players under the age of 25. Their two current young prospects include RJ Barrett & Mitchell Robinson, who are 20 and 22 years old, respectively.

In the rookie season, the old management and RJ did not really gel well. Tom’s aim will probably be to find the best position that is fit for him on the court. Mitchell Robinson on the other hand, can run the floor, block shots amazingly well but needs to be defensive discipline.

He continues to say,” Those are the two that stand out. We have a lot of young talent.”

Coach Gregg Popovich certainly seems to think that Tom is the correct choice. He told the Associated Press that, “Tommy’s a seasoned veteran who it goes without saying understands what wins and what loses. He knows how to put a program together, create a culture and be demanding — and at the same time, make people accountable.”

In the past 16 years, The New York Knicks have only made it to the playoffs just thrice and won just one playoff series, which was about 7 years ago. Thibodeau is very demanding, which makes him someone who can extract wins. This may be what the Knicks need right now.
