In the sport of boxing, the right manager or promoter for a fighter is crucial. A promoter assists in negotiations, career guidance, and promotional activities amongst other things. After being associated with Eddie Hearn‘s promotion, Matchroom Boxing, Canelo Alvarez signed a 3-fight contract with Al Haymon’s PBC. Alvarez last fought in May against John Ryder and continued his reign as the undisputed super-middleweight champion. After his victory, there were plenty of bouts waiting for him.
However, all speculations came to rest when Alvarez sent shockwaves in the boxing world when he announced his return against the undefeated WBC Middleweight champion, Jermall Charlo in September managed by PBC. Amidst this recent turn of events, Hearn weighs in on Alvarez’s recent move and surprisingly seems happy about the same.

Hearn is one of the biggest promoters in the sport. Losing Alvarez to another promotion does not jeopardize his career. However, Alvarez was undoubtedly his biggest star and one would suspect Hearn being upset over losing Alvarez. But it appears that Hearn is positive and considers it the right move for the Mexican boxer. Interestingly, he acknowledged his shortcomings as a promoter by confessing he failed to make him the right offer.
In an interview with FightHype, Hearn stated, “Spoke to Saul last night. Wish him all the best. I think it is good move for him. We didn’t have a fight for him we didn’t have an offer for him. He got to go somewhere.”
He added, “They have the best fights for him at this stage in his career.” Keeping his professional interest aside, Hearn has nothing but kind words for him despite the split. And as a fan, he remains interested in seeing Alvarez’s career take a new shape.
Eddie Hearn on the next potential opponent for Canelo Alvarez
In the same interview, Hearn was asked about the future opponents for Alvarez. To which, he named Charlo as the most likely next opponent for him. Thereafter, he took the name of Dmitry Bivol, the second fighter Alvarez lost to in his career. And surprisingly, he took the name of Errol Spence Jr. who is way below Alvarez’s weight class, at Welterweight.
