Over the course of two chapters and 15 seasons, Epic Games has added a lot of items to Fortnite. These range from a common rarity to legendary based on different factors. Epic balances out powerful weapons by making them rare by lowering their drop percentage. Naturally, game-changing items are much rarer.
Players often think that legendary and mythic items are the rarest. Their high efficiency combined with damage makes them a highly prized possession. However, YouTuber Muselk thinks that he found the rarest item in the game and it is not legendary.

The ‘Charged Shotgun’ appeared in the third season of the current chapter, post which Epic vaulted some versions of the weapon. However, even though it drops as a rare item, players can upgrade it to legendary.
Why is Charged Shotgun the rarest weapon in Fortnite?
Epic has already vaulted most of the versions of the Charged Shotgun which decreases its drop rate. According to Muselk, for the version that does exist, the developers have also reduced the drop.

In his video, Muselk came across the rare shotgun only thrice and sometimes in late games. He tried to search as many chests as he could on the map and still had very tough luck. However, once he finally came across one, he promptly approached an NPC. Using his gold bars, he upgraded the Charged Shotgun to legendary.

Even though Muselk went on to win the game using the rare shotgun, it begs the question of whether the charged shotgun is a good weapon? While it was under the spotlight when Epic released it, it is no longer relevant. This explains the low drop rates. The charge time, damage, and reload time together make it an extremely difficult weapon to use.
Therefore, while it might be the rarest weapon in Fortnite, coming across one might not be too exciting for players. However, if one is in the mood for a challenge, they can always take this one up.
