Victory is sweet but revenge is sweeter. We saw a perfect revenge today at the Philippe Chatrier court in the fourth-round match between Simona Halep and Iga Swiatek.

The two faced each other for a place in the quarterfinals, and the top seed Halep was the hot favorite. However, proving everyone wrong, Swiatek went through to the quarter-finals.

Halep and Iga also met each other last year at the Roland Garros in the fourth round. However, a novice Swiatek was no match for experienced Halep. Ending the match in mere 45 minutes, Halep proceeded to the next round.

Fast forward a year, we saw these two players clash once again. Halep was eager to repeat the previous year’s result, while Swiatek was looking to put up a good fight. Before coming into the match, she warned her opponent that the tie won’t be a walk in the park like the previous year.

Iga walked the talk as she pulled off a spectacular straight-set win to sail through to the quarterfinals. After an hour of tennis, Simona Halep was ousted from the tournament, as the scoreline read 6-1, 6-2 in favor of the Polish teenager. Unable to control her emotions following her big victory, Iga let out her emotions after the match.

“Swiatek stuns Halep! Teenager Iga Swiatek needs just 70 minutes to end Halep’s streak 6-1 6-2,” Roland Garros official tweeted.

Ever since her loss in the Australian Open 2020 semi-finals, Halep had been undefeated. She went on to win the Dubai Tennis Championships by defeating Elena Rybakina and the Prague Open by defeating Elise Mertens.

Prior to the French Open 2020, she also won the Italian Open 2020 by defeating Karolina Pliskova in straight sets. She was in a good form at the French open 2020. However, her victory carriage had to stop in front of the 19-year-old Polish professional.
