Fortnite has been facing a severe downfall in its user base for the past few months. Pros and content creators around the world are quitting the game and moving to alternatives like Call of Duty: Warzone. Luckily, the game’s competitive scene is still alive with regular tournaments like the FNCS and fans love watching their favorite pros compete against each other. However, unprofessional activities like griefing have also made their way to competitive Fortnite, and the community certainly dislikes it.

Twitch streamer and content creator SypherPK was playing a custom game when he was griefed by some players. He lost his cool and threatened to have them permanently banned.

Why is griefing in Fortnite such a big issue?

In competitive games with high stakes attached to them, players do not engage with each other instantly. Unlike public matches, the pros gather as much loot as they can and then engage in fair fights. However, some players do not follow this strategy and intentionally disrupt the game for other players. Griefing includes early gunfights, stream sniping, and non-calculated fights, etc.

The community has contrasting opinions on this phenomenon. A lot of players define it as a play-style and do not complain about it. However, most players claim that it is unprofessional and makes the game less competitive.

SypherPK faced similar players while hosting a custom game for practice. He had clarified that players should play for the win and naturally; the streamer wasn’t expecting any griefers in the lobby. But things took an unexpected turn when a player took the fight with SypherPK outside the circle. Apparently, the player had turned back from his circle rotation and engaged with the streamer.

In another incident, two players teamed up against SypherPK and eliminated him. The streamer was not pleased with such unprofessional behavior in his custom games. As a result, he pledged to get those players banned from Fortnite permanently. He tracked the players and discovered that they have terrible stats, and this aggravated his rage.

Sypher ended up calling the player named ‘Donkey FC’ and expressed his anger over the situation. He confronted the player on discord and even cursed him for his actions.

Streamers like Ninja have also opened up about the issue multiple times and have requested the community to not “stoop to such levels”.  Do you think these players deserve a ban from Fortnite or SypherPK overreacted to the whole situation?
