Emotions run very high in Motorsports and the 2018 F2 Sprint race in Paul Richard, France is yet another example of that. Indian driver Arjun Maini’s frustration boiled over the team radio after he qualified 17th in the sprint race, three-tenths behind Trident teammate Santino Ferrucci.

Maini was complaining about an excessive loss of power which saw him finish 10th in the feature race, over 90 seconds behind winner George Russell and 13th in the Sprint Race, over 59 seconds behind winner Nyck de Vries. The Indian racer had a fairly successful 2017 GP3 season for Jenzer Motorsport with a win in Barcelona and third place in Abu Dhabi.

However, the 2018 GP2 proved to be a tough season for Maini. He finished 16th in the standings with 24 points to his name. Current F1 stars like George Russell, Lando Norris, and Alex Alben dominated the 2018 GP2 grid.

Emotional Radio of an Indian F2 driver

Arjun Maini currently competes in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). He previously drove in the FIA F2 championship with limited success. Back in 2018, Maini had an emotional meltdown on the team radio after a poor qualifying in the sprint race.

On the team radio after the race, Maini said: “I swear you guys don’t support me at all. I do everything every ****ing session!”

“You can’t do this to me, mate! I have no ****ing power out of the corner, why doesn’t anybody ****ing believe me?”

“F*** It. I don’t want to race in this championship anymore,” said the Indian driver in agony.

Right after the Sprint Race yesterday, Maini explained he said this with an intention to hit at series organizers. “All weekend we lost almost 7km/h down the straight, and we had a problem in free practice,” said Maini as reported by Sky Sports.

“They said there was a pipe that was melting, we replaced it for qualifying and it melted again. I had no straight-line speed again compared to my teammate or anybody else.”

“They said they fixed the problem, Race 1 I had no straight-line speed again, and now we have to check the data but [in Race 2] I had no straight-line speed again,” added the Indian.

Many expected Maini to be India’s next name in F1, following the footsteps of Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok. However, he did not carry on with his career in the F1 feeder series. But Maini’s message remains one of the saddest team radio messages in the sport.
