India’s newest fast bowler to have played One Day International cricket, Navdeep Saini, picked up a wicket with a perfect yorker on his debut.
Before the start of play in the third ODI of the ongoing India vs West Indies series on Sunday in Cuttack, Saini received his India cap from captain Virat Kohli. Coming in for the injured Deepak Chahar, Saini became the 229th player to play for India in the ODIs.
Coming in with a reputation of bowling fast, his speeds did not disappoint. He ended with figures of 2-58 having bowled his full quota of 10 overs. One of those wickets was off a perfect yorker that would have been as much delight for Saini as much it would be for the viewers.

In the 32nd over, Roston Chase was late in bringing his bat down to a Navdeep Saini-yorker only to see the timber disturbed behind him.
A video of the incident was obtained from BCCI-
By the time Chase was dismissed, the scorecard read 144 for 4. Kieron Pollard came in next and he had a stroke-filled partnership with Nicholas Pooran. Pooran’s eye-catching innings ended runs short of century, while Pollard remained not out at 74. The duo’s flourish at the end ensured West Indies reached a score of over 300. They set India a target of 315 in what looked like a good batting surface.
Here’s a few reactions for Saini’s yorker & his performance on twitter-
Very impressed with Navdeep Saini. Hits pace easily, good bouncer, very good yorker. Imagining him in red ball cricket….

You dont need a quirky bowling action to be rated high if you bowl at that pace and hit those yorkers on regular basis. #Saini#INDvWI #NavdeepSaini
