Mikaela Shiffrin came to the Beijing Winter Olympics as a bonafide champion, She was the popular choice to win the Gold medal at alpine skiing, Representing Team U.S., she came to Beijing with high hopes.
But all her hopes were shattered when she received back-to-back DNF’S in giant slalom and slalom. Both of these were her dominant events, which meant that she had lost her two best chances at the gold medal.

However, the disheartened Mikaela has picked herself up and she is back on the slope, giving back to back impressive performances, putting it out there that it’s not time for her to go just yet.
Will Mikaela Shiffrin be able to get her hands on the Gold?
The Women’s Alpine Combined Downhill event was held on February 17th, 2022. Mikaela Shiffrin was quite dominant in her performance and showed out in a big way. All the skiers will be given two rounds to perform. The combined scores of both rounds will be tallied to decide the ultimate winner.
Mikaela went into her first run and completed the course at a time of 1:32:98. This put her in the 5th position ahead of the 2nd round. This means that she is in a good place to secure a podium finish.

If Mikaela is able to maintain her consistency, and give a good performance in the 2nd round, she might just make it to a podium finish. However, Shiffrin has her eyes set on the gold medal.
Mikaela’s last chance at Solo Gold
This event is very important for her because this is her last chance at an individual gold medal. Previously, she received DNF’s in the Giant Slalom and Slalom events, both of which left her heartbroken.
But the athlete was able to pick up the pace and get it going. She completed both the Super G and the Downhill events; which boosted her confidence.

She had revealed that currently; she is concentrating on finishing the run rather than winning a medal. Perhaps this motto will actually work for Shiffrin because she has successfully completed all her recent runs. Just a day ago, Shiffrin dominated the downhill combined training session.
As she is placed in 5th position, she will hope that she is able to pick it up from there and give a podium finish performance. Currently, the scoreboard is dominated by Christine Scheyer of Austria.
