It is not a regular occurrence that a party game gets made into a film. Nonetheless, ever since Among Us got itself entangled in the pandemic hype, it has been breaking stereotypes of all kinds. A German team of creators, headed by Jay Samuelz and Arya Lee, has made the game a reality in their short film.

The film revolves around the conflict that players face while deciding the imposter’s identity during meetings. If you are not the imposter in the game, the biggest adrenaline rush is during the meetings. The ambiguity in deciding the right imposter and justifying your actions is what makes the game so much fun.
The film portrays very real situations where astronauts on a spaceship are performing tasks while a single imposter goes berserk on them. When one amongst them turns up dead, a meeting is called to figure out the ‘imposter’.
The film successfully captures the essence of Among Us
In the game, the imposters are assigned at the start. In the film, they created a background involving a virus that affects people. The main effect of the virus ‘Polus’ is that it turns humans into mass murderers.
The attention to detail in the short film is commendable. The actors use terms from the game like ‘sus’, ‘med bay’, ‘storage’ and others, rooting the idea from where it is derived. The film also uses music from the game to give it even more authenticity.
The first scene shows an astronaut trying to scan a card but failing multiple times. Any fan of the game will recognize how annoying that task is in reality. Even the names of the characters are according to their costume colors, just like in the game.
Watching the short invokes a desire to watch a feature murder mystery based on the game. Safe to say then that the film does its job.
