Olympic Gold medallist Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has missed a huge opportunity. Travel complications have forced the title contender to sit out of the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati. The Russian star has withdrawn from the Western and Southern Open due to the technical issues faced due to traveling during COVID times.
Now, she is looking forward to getting her US Visa in time to play the US Open, which is starting at the end of this month.

Travel complications force Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to Withdraw
The Roland Garros finalist who is currently in Canada shared her grief on Twitter, stating, “Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Western & Southern Open. Still in Canada, I am waiting for my US visa. Hopefully, I’ll get it soon and will be there in time for the US Open.”

Pavlyuchenkova was supposed to play the round of 64 against Bernarda Pera later this evening after an early exit at the Canadian Open. The world no. 17 has earlier reached the semi-final of the Western and Southern Open.
The untimely obstacle will be especially disheartening for the Russian given her form of late. Anastasia is playing the best tennis she has ever played, in a season that is undoubtedly her best yet already, winning an Olympic Gold medal in the mixed doubles category with Andrey Rublev and reaching the Roland Garros final.

While there’s nothing to be done about the Cincinnati Masters now, Anastasia certainly has a lot more to play for. She’ll now be looking at US Open to continue her impressive season with a strong showing.
