Marked by extraordinary victories, the 22-year-old trail runner suffered an accident that claimed his life in the Ecrins Massif.

Olivero’s ascent in the trail running world had been marked with notable victories. He had grabbed the under-23 French Championship in the recent past. However, he refused to restrict himself to trail running. Extending his interest, he was integral to the National Ski-Alpinism Excellence Group.
With this, he embarked on ambitious mountain climbing endeavors. Being part of one such endeavor, the trail runner met with a fatal accident during a solo ski mountaineering descent from the Blanche summit in the Hautes-Alpes. Around 8 p.m. on December 22, Olivera’s roommate informed the Briançon mountain rescue team, telling them, “He had gone to the summit of La Blanche on ski touring, but he did not return.” Later on, the French Athletics Federation of Alpine and Mountain Clubs (FFCAM) confirmed the news and shared the message on losing one of their members.

Even though the rescue team had been alerted, the operations could not be initiated. The wind speed was about 70km/hour, which would have impeded the search processes by helicopter. Because of this, the CRS team was sent on foot. However, they, too, failed to bring back the trail runner. Only on Saturday, December 23, after the weather had improved, was the gendarmerie air section sent to the site.
The lifeless body of Olivera was discovered at the foot of the Boeufs Rouge glacier, which stands at an elevation of 8,000 feet above sea level. As shared by Captain Guiraud, the CRS specialized in mountain rescue, “He had reached the summit of La Blanche and was chained by the point of Celse Nière. It was on the descent that he had a fatal fall.” It had been shocking for the sports community to lose the athlete who won the 2023 Ecrins trail on the 34km course. Besides, Olivera had won the Autnbale des Hautes-Alpes trail that ranged over 26 km. He also took charge of the Austrian round in Hochkonig of the Skyrunner World Series.
