The human body is frail, and no matter how much of an athlete you are, it will always catch up. This is something New York Jets‘ Carl Lawson has been finding out the hard way. Lawson has found himself at a crossroads since his playing time has been curtailed due to his back injury.

As rumors swirl, Lawson stands firm in his willingness to play and contribute to the team. However, when one is a bonafide star in the NFL, they must also deal with speculations and rumors. And Lawson is no exception to the rule. 

Resilience is the key to Lawson’s victory in the NFL

Lawson had been looking forward to giving his best in the 2023 season, however, life had different plans as he got sidelines in week 1 with a back injury incurred at the training camp. He shared his views on NJ.com stating, “Would I have imagined this being the start to my season? Definitely not. But that’s life, sometimes it hits you really fast.” 

Due to his injury, Lawson has been in the field only 30 percent of the entire time. However, the 28-year-old NFL player refused to allow the trade rumors to get in the way of his determination to play for the game, regardless of the team he is attached to. 

Injury setbacks have been a part of Lawson’s journey when he missed an entire season in 2021 due to his two different ACL tears. But he ensured to recover from these physical challenges and his unwavering determination defines his dedication towards the sport.  

Lawson’s notable record increases the chances of his field participation

In Week 1, the Jets did not allow Lawson to take part in the game due to the physical exhaustion he was undergoing due to the injury. But for the Week 5 game, he was the odd man out of the defensive line since it was a numbers game.

His time away from the game for a long span shed light on the probable difference of opinion between him and his team. Lawson in an interview with SNY stated, “I’ve always wanted to help the Jets win and be the best version of myself for a team. But at the end of the day, I want to be a football player and produce and help. I’m a football player, not a cheerleader. That’s where my head’s at….As long as I’m a Jet I’m going to keep getting better and be the best version of Carl Lawson I can be.”

Given that he’s only 28, Lawson already holds an impressive record of 27 sacks and 117 tackles within his six years of association with the NFL. So regardless of the speculations, Lawson has indeed walked the talk. And now the Jets have time till October 31 to make a decision about the team’s structure.

It will be interesting to see whether Lawson makes his way back to the field. His dedication and resilience are qualities the team needs in close games. And even though Lawson’s future remains uncertain, his unwavering spirit and love for football will allow him to overcome all the hurdles that will come his way.
