If you’ve watched WWE in the late 90s, and the early ’00s, you’ll remember Ric Flair and his iconic sells. The way he reacts to punches and pushes his opponents over to the fans is nothing short of legendary. However, many have questioned how realistic it seems. What if we told you, this has happened not once, but multiple times in the world of MMA?

Delayed KO in Korean Promotion

Casa Korea Fights, a South Korean MMA promotion sees a bunch of international fighters, getting into it within the octagonal ring. One fight which happened recently, and went viral on Twitter, sees a delayed KO, which bears a strong resemblance to the Nature Boy’s sells. The knockout was a result of a punch that was thrown a few seconds before the KO.

Once the punch was thrown, the fighter seemed to be able to continue fighting for a couple of seconds. He was able to walk backward and lean on the ring before the true impact of the punch hit him. In what the audience describes as “anime-like”, this delayed Knockout sent a shockwave through the MMA community.

The fans were also quick to spot that this bore a strong resemblance to the iconic Ric Flair sells, as evident in the replies to this Twitter post.

Dubbed the “KO that took 3-5 business days” this phenomenon occurring actually adds another layer of complexity to Ric Flair’s iconic sells.

Not the First time

This delayed KO, albeit rare, is definitely not impossible. In fact, this has happened in the UFC as well. In a fight between Edson Barbosa and Shane Burgos in 2021 (UFC 262), this exact situation happened. Barbosa landed a looping right hand, catching Burgos’ face. Burgos took 5 whole seconds to feel the full impact of the punch before falling on the ground without anything else landing on him.

This bizarre incident has been covered by medical professionals in detail on YouTube before. These videos see a complete breakdown of this.

Popular YouTuber and Doctor Brian Sutterer MD states “This is a perfect example of why concussions can be so tricky. During these 5 seconds, a cascade of events is taking place within Burgos’ brain that ultimately are accumulating to the point where it caused him to go down”
