As he gears up for the International Blind Sports Federation World Games in Birmingham this August and sets his sights on the Paralympics in Paris next year, Amir is not just excelling on the pitch.

The Rochdale-based athlete is also making a significant impact off the field by running his own disability awareness program. With Learn With ESS, he aims to educate and inspire people about disability through interactive workshops, talks, and sports activities.

A Blind Footballer with a Vision for Change

Azeem Amir, the talented 24-year-old blind footballer, is not only setting his sights on sporting success but also making a positive impact beyond the pitch. As he prepares to represent England in the upcoming International Blind Sports Federation World Games in Birmingham, Amir’s ambitions extend beyond his athletic achievements. Through his enterprise, Learn With ESS (Education, Sport, and Speaking), he aims to foster disability awareness and understanding in schools, colleges, businesses, and sports clubs.

Launched two years ago, Learn With ESS offers interactive workshops that provide participants with practical experiences to gain a better understanding of disability in a fun and engaging way. Amir’s workshops combine education, sport, and speaking, allowing people to immerse themselves in activities while learning about the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.

His dedication to the cause has seen the program grow considerably, combining both business and charitable elements to reach a broader audience.

Juggling Passions

As a midfielder for Merseyside Blind FC, Amir already has a busy schedule, training up to seven times a week to ensure he is at the top of his game. However, he manages to find the perfect balance between his footballing career and his passion for promoting disability awareness.

The journey has not been without challenges, but with unwavering support from his family and a deep sense of fulfillment from his work, Amir is proving that his impact stretches far beyond the football field. He stated “It’s a challenge but I’ve got a good family network, good support. I feel like I’m adding something to the world. I’ve got good people and I enjoy what I do. There’s nothing better than that.”

Asked about the Paris 2024 Paralympics, he stated Fingers crossed we can make it happen. That’d be unbelievable. There’s been a big push over the last few months. We’ve been to Brazil, to France, to Romania, playing different tournaments, having training camps, just to prep ourselves in readiness for the Paralympic Games qualifiers. I just hope that we get some luck and with a bit of hard work and graft we can make it happen”
