Wrexham A.F.C owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are once again the talk of the town. The two Hollywood stars rose to fame and recognition in the soccer world after a whirlwind season that saw the club lifting the National League title after 45 long years.

The subsequent reward of winning the championship in a season for the ages was promotion to the EFL League Two after a 15-year hiatus. The following and fanbase of the club have grown multitudes in the past few years, the majority of it down to the riveting documentary, ‘Welcome to Wrexham’. New club owners t0o have become beloved by soccer fans because people always love the story of an underdog.

Ryan Reynolds and McElhenney go above and beyond

On the road for their pre-season tour, the club had exhibition matches with some of the most notable names in soccer and got a taste of the highest order of skill. In their friendly against Manchester United at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, striker Paul Mullin injured himself in a collision with the opponent’s keeper. The Englishman left the field with a punctured lung and that was the end of his pre-season tour.

They took Mullin to UC San Diego Health Hospital for further examination and were advised to rest by the doctors. Unable to fly back home for two weeks after the injury, McElhenney offered the striker to stay back and recover at his residence in California. Talking to the media ahead of their friendly with MLS team Philadelphia Union II, he said as reported by FoxNews, “This Paul thing is devastating to the club but, again, it’s a contact sport and these things happen. He further said, “He’s OK. I just texted with him this morning. He’s in San Diego and he’s going to come over and stay with us for a couple of weeks until he can leave and head back to Wales.

With no clear date for his return to footballing action, they expected the striker to miss out on the early half of their campaign in the EFL. The tackle on Mullin by keeper Nathan Bishop received a lot of criticism from the coach and fans. Ryan Reynolds, co-owner, made sure to reach out to the keeper and praise him for the manner in which he dealt with the situation and wishes him luck in the future.

The club has enjoyed a star-studded pre-season, playing the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. They also had the opportunity to compete against reserve teams of the Major League Soccer and will now return home for the start of a new chapter in their club’s journey back to the top.

“I cannot believe it’s beginning again, but I’m so excited,” McElhenney said about the upcoming season.
