In a shocking and tragic incident, Luz Mery Tristán, a former world skating champion and pioneer of the sport in Colombia, lost her life in a shooting incident involving her fiancé, Andrés Ricci, at her residence in Cali, Colombia. Tristán, aged 60, had reached iconic status in the world of speed skating, notably becoming the first Colombian to clinch a gold medal at the 1990 Inline Speed Skating World Championships. The incident has left the sports community and the nation in disbelief.

A Heartbreaking End to a Skating Pioneer’s Life

Luz Mery Tristán’s life came to a tragic end on Saturday. The Cali Metropolitan Police responded to reports of a domestic dispute and found her lifeless body at her condominium. They have since apprehended her boyfriend, Andrés Ricci (58) at the scene. He was clutching the murder weapon at that time.

Authorities noted that Ricci was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest. The authorities rushed him to the hospital following a cardiovascular ailment.

During a subsequent virtual hearing, Andrés Ricci confessed to the murder of Tristán. He is currently facing charges including aggravated femicide, trafficking, and illegal possession of a firearm.
