In the world of motocross, there are races, and then there are races that touch the soul. The 7th annual Cody Gragg Memorial 2 Stroke Race is unquestionably one of the latter. It’s a tribute, a commemoration, and an adrenaline-pumping celebration of the late Cody Gragg.
From his days racing 50cc bikes in 2000, Cody left an indelible mark on the motocross community. This heartfelt event is not just a race. It’s also a living memorial to Cody and his father, Chris. The father-son duo were inseparable as they conquered the dirt tracks together.
Racing Back to the Roots: The 2 Stroke Nostalgia
This event is a true throwback to the days when motocross bikes roared with the distinctive sound of 2-stroke engines. It’s not just another race; it’s a living piece of motocross history.
A practice and qualifying race on Saturday, with a field of 40 riders determined, sets the stage for the main event on Sunday. The main event is slated for around 12:30 p.m. during intermission.
The 7th annual Cody Gragg Memorial 2 Stroke Race boasts a remarkable cumulative prize pool of $33,000. Victory Sports initiated the fund with $7,000. However, it has grown exponentially through generous contributions from individuals and companies.
Along with this, 100% of the riders’ signup fees will also go towards the prize pool.
A Growing Legacy: A Tribute That Keeps on Giving
In the past five years, riders from different states have tasted victory. Each victory added its own unique chapter to this event’s rich history. Tyler Stepek of Maryland in 2017, Indiana’s Ezra Hastings in 2018, Luke Neese in 2019, Kyle Bitterman’s back-to-back wins in 2020 and 2021, and Matt Burkeen’s thrilling victory last year have all contributed to the enduring legacy of the Cody Gragg Memorial Race.
This year’s event promises to be another heart-pounding chapter in the Cody Gragg Memorial Race’s legacy. The $60 entry fee, which goes directly into the purse, coupled with the practice and qualifier on Saturday, ensures that the event remains a celebration of motocross heritage.
With the roaring engines, the smell of burnt rubber, and the crowd’s electrifying energy, the 7th annual Cody Gragg Memorial 2 Stroke Race at Muddy Creek Raceway in October 2023 is poised to be a fitting tribute to a motocross icon and a continued source of inspiration for riders and fans alike.
