Age is indeed just a number, and 105-year-old Fred Miles proves it. With the help of Teton Adaptive Sports, this remarkable elderly man achieved a record at Jackson Hole Paragliding. A military veteran and a passionate aviator, Miles set the world record for the oldest person to participate in tandem paragliding.

Paragliding presents its own challenges, especially for someone old. But Fred’s determination enabled him to overcome every obstacle. With this spirit, he took to the skies in Jackson Hole on a beautiful September morning.

Experience of WWII tested in paragliding

Miles served in the Air Force for 28 years. Prior to his retirement, he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. Being a part of this esteemed profession, he has closely observed the ravages caused by WWII. Taking charge as a fighter pilot during the war, flying is not an unacquainted territory for Miles. He joined the military as a flying cadet, followed by which he trained the Flying Black Panthers. Notably, he was a fearless fighter pilot during the war and exhibited unparalleled skill and courage in the skies.

The passion for flying, instilled during his military service, prevailed to be an integral part of Mile’s life even after his retirement. When being taken on a bumpy road, the video shows Fred singing throughout, revealing his carefree personality.    

Miles believes in living in the moment

At the beginning of the YouTube video, Miles seems to be clueless about the record he is going to break. On being told he is the oldest paraglider in the world, Miles responds, “I don’t really think it makes much of any difference to people.” 

Such is his approach towards life as he just wants to enjoy his flight, not thinking much about the outcome. However, this achievement not only freezes his legacy as a great aviator but also a source of inspiration for the future generation.

Seated in his wheelchair, Miles embarks on an unforgettable adventure with the stunning backdrop of the Teton mountains. During the daring flight, he gracefully glided through the air, exhibiting his indomitable spirit. As reported by the Snow Brains, the video clearly showcases that Miles thoroughly enjoyed the flights when Miles exclaimed out of joy saying “We are in Heaven”.
