A Sunday that none of the residents of Victoria will forget just got even worse. Three major accidents happening so close to each other is not something you hear every day and will certainly leave fear in the hearts of people. The paragliding operator is yet to be identified by authorities and no family member has tried to establish contact yet. It all unfolded near the intersection of Kenny’s Lane and Rossmoyne Road in Colac West.

The wreckage of the accident site told a haunting tale of the tragedy that unfolded and the paraglider lay in ruins in the paddock, its twisted spokes a grim sight caught by cameras. The cause of the devastating crash remains a mystery, fueling speculation and demand for answers. Amid the disbelief and grief of the local community, concerns arise about the safety measures and details surrounding the fatal incident.

To worsen things, this was just one of the two accidents that happened on Sunday. The annual Southern 80 race claimed the life of Luke Wentworth of Team Gassa, who, while waterskiing behind a speedboat, reportedly crashed into a tree.

A beloved pastime for many, the crash serves as a poignant awakening to the dangers that come with daring recreational pursuits. Authorities are now working to understand how the crash took place and have urged people for help.

Investigations are underway

There were speculations that the Australian Transportation Safety Bureau will head the investigation of the crash. But rules suggest that crashes that involve sporting aviation equipment are outside the jurisdiction of the ATSB. However, sports aviation institutions can take up the case and the ATSB will provide them with any external assistance, if required.
