NHL’s twitter handle posted a tweet “901 games later, Patric Hornqvist is hanging them up. Congratulations on an incredible career, Patric”

Replies flew in to this tweet, almost as soon as it was posted, with fans recollecting some famous moments from his career.  George Gaich, for instance, loved when Horny played for the penguins and scored a goal against his former team, Nashville Predators.

Some commented on how fast time seems to fly, and that they’d have never guessed the penguins legend played more games as a pen than a pred.

The Panthers, Patric’s last official team, also posted a tweet appreciating the man for an incredible career.

Fans were hoping for the Panthers to hire him back in the prospect development department, where he would be able to “instill his mindset and work ethic into all Panthers prospects.

Emotional memories were running wild, as fans shared their favorite memories of the legend. One fan in particular named him “one of the most underrated players the game ever saw.”

Penguins Joins In

Patric played a huge role in Pittsburgh Penguins back to back, and the club expressed their gratitude as well, along with a montage of some of his best plays.

It is during his time with the Penguins that the nickname “Horny” stuck with him. Fans called out for their favorite legend, stating how much they love him.

The Swede was picked last in the ’05 draft. Since then, he has scored 543 points, and 2 cups. This was aptly summarized by a Canadian fan, Jay.

Others were gushing with pride about buying a “Hornqvist Jersey” and appreciated him for his ability to “play with pace and also muck it up in the crease on the boards”

Some witty fans took the horny nickname too seriously, and made great puns out of this.
