Some people aren’t particularly great at anything, and that’s okay. Some people are really good at one specific thing, and that’s great. But then there are those who excel in so many diverse fields that they might as well be good at everything. Such is the case with New England Patriots rookie cheerleader Olivia Kerins, who, for the first time, will be looking to use her platform to spread the word about skin cancer prevention. While that might seem random, albeit admirable initially, that is only until you discover that Kerins is an oncology nurse.
The cheerleader, also a former Miss Massachusetts USA semifinalist, got into the nursing profession after realizing how under-funded cancer research is. She seems to be genuinely committed to the cause despite the multiple hats she dons.

Kerins comes from a family with over 20 nurses. In fact, her parents own and operate a nursing concierge company while her brother and his fiancée are both nurses. While it would be safe to feel safe in the Kerins’ household, it must be comically easy to feel insecure around the multi-faceted Olivia herself.

From the outside looking in, Kerins might seem instantly gifted at anything she picks up. However, she actually had a tough time joining the Patriots’ cheer squad. It took Kerins four attempts to successfully join the team. While trying to make the team, she graduated and discovered her interest in all things oncology and cancer prevention. She also spent this time opening a philanthropy and fundraising branch of the family business.
The New England Patriots roster has not had someone with this much talent on their team in a long time.

How Kerins Made the Cheer Team?
Oddly enough, Kerins’ admission into the cheer team was likely aided by a change to the audition process – the requirement to write a philanthropy paper. Kerins claimed she felt like the “stars were aligning” as the requirement was right up her alley. The cheerleader will now be able to use her platform on the cheer team, as well as her philanthropic venture, to help increase funding for cancer research and treatment.
