Recently, a player from Kelowna made the entire country proud by winning the gold at the Canada Cup in volleyball.

Kylie Taylor, along with the Canadian under-16 team, secured the gold medal. Two under-16 teams were sent to the national tournament, where under-18 girls’ teams were supposed to compete. Being under-16 teams, they were considered underdogs. Surprisingly, they performed exceptionally well, showing both resilience and speed throughout the tournament. Their success in claiming gold was truly unexpected for everyone.

After their victory, Kylie and the team were filled with pride and shared their thoughts on the achievement. Kylie mentioned that they were initially advised not to expect many wins due to their younger age. However, after the first day of the tournament, they had won all their games, leaving everyone pleasantly surprised. In a post-game interview, Kylie expressed how the team came together and how winning the last point felt like a tremendous reward for all the weeks of training they had been through. The joyous celebration with coaches jumping around and hugging each other created an unforgettable moment.

“Our team really came together and I remember when we won the last point of the game, we all started jumping and screaming and a bunch of us just started crying because it just felt like such a big reward after the weeks of training we put into this team. Our coaches were jumping around and hugging each other, it was just such a cool environment to be a part of.”
The entire Canadian team displayed exceptional skills, making a powerful statement from the very first day of the tournament. The finals against the Alberta under-18 team were tough, but they pushed themselves to the limit and emerged victorious.
